Lakeside School

1973 - Seattle, Washington
Bassetti Architects assisted Lakeside School with master planning for the entire campus over 25 years ago. Since then, we have updated the original plan several times and completed over 20 projects, including new buildings, additions and renovations. The successful restoration of existing buildings extended their lives while creating facilities that enhance current educational processes. The restorations also continue the context and fabric of the original Neo-Georgian campus.

Pigott Memorial Library is situated at the heart of the campus and serves and the primary school library. While responding to the formal style of the main campus entrance, the facility also embraces the forest beyond. Lauded by many for its acoustical quality, the 400-seat Saint Nicholas Performance Hall is used by the community as well as the school. The building effectively reinforces the pedestrian patterns of the campus. The design for the Allen/Gates Hall integrates the programs of the math and science departments and includes class-rooms, labs, lecture hall and greenhouse. The design of the Lakeside Field House presented a special problem to the design team; mitigating the visual impact of this large structure. The solution, an earth-sheltered, split-level scheme, brought the facility into scale with the adjacent campus buildings and provided energy conservation benefits.
