We have an obligation to do more.
In alignment with Bassetti’s continuing conversations and evaluations on EDI at our firm, we signed onto the NOMA NW Call to Action. This pledge, put together by our local chapter of NOMA (National Organization of Minority Architects), provides a framework for firms to evaluate themselves, and take action to uplift BIPOC voices at their firm and in the A/E/C industry.
To kick off the Call to Action at Bassetti, the EDI group regularly hosts firm-wide discussions about systematic racism, implicit bias, and equity within our firm culture and externally within staffs’ personal lives. Each meeting focuses on a specific aspect of the NOMA Call to Action.
The pledge requires transparency in various processes such as recruiting and hiring, as well as promotions and pay gap. We are committed to providing direct action to better ourselves as a firm, as well as our individual selves outside of work. We believe in foster healthy communities, and this cannot be done without a commitment to a diversity of voices and leadership at our firm.
We have a commitment to incorporate social justice into everything that we do and everything we design. We are dedicated to persistently challenging ourselves to do better, discovering new ways to weave equity in design, and continually embedding ourselves in the communities that our designs serve.
Formed in 2020, Bassetti’s Equity Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Group supports the Bassetti’s Strategic Plan 2018-2023 through constructive review of current structures and the promotion of diversity, equity and inclusion with actions that empower and cultivate a firmwide culture that is anti-racist and acts against systemic oppression of all marginalized groups.
After the implementation of the EDI group, Bassetti participated in specific trainings put on by an outside group to learn about implicit bias, white culture toxicity, and how to have uncomfortable conversations on race. These trainings are continuing and serve to create a baseline of information in which we as a firm can build upon at future discussions.
