Bassetti Architects Celebrates Recent ALEP Certifications

Bassetti Architects has a commitment to fostering healthy communities through learning and design. We are pleased to announce the continuation of this intention through two recent Accredited Learning Environment Planner (ALEP) certifications.

Congratulations to Lydia Burns AIA, ALEP, Associate Principal and Director of Project Management and Dena Eaton-Colles Assoc. AIA, ALEP, LEED Green Associate, Planner / Programmer.

Lydia Burns AIA, ALEP

With over 30 years of experience in the planning, design, and management of public and private projects, Lydia uses her skills to assure success from concept through completion. Through Lydia’s experience in all phases of design, she has developed key skills to aid the owner with effectively capturing their vision, defining goals, setting priorities, and organizing scope. Helping lead the Portland office as Associate Principal and Director of Project Management, she can be counted on to thoughtfully listen, understand needs, and clearly define a path forward that sets her project team up for success.

Dena Eaton-Colles Assoc. AIA, ALEP, LEED Greeen Associate

Dena’s experience as both architectural designer and educator gives her a unique view on the role that space can play in education. She understands teaching and learning pedagogy and is inspired by schools that address not only current best practices, but those that look ahead to the future of educational facility design. Dena is a co-leader of Bassetti’s Trauma-Informed Design initiative which seeks to shape schools that address not only the academic, but also the social-emotional well-being of all our children.

What is ALEP Certification?

Provided through the Association for Learning Environments (A4LE) and their independent accrediting body, “the Accredited Learning Environment Planner (ALEP) is designed to elevate professional standards, enhance individual performance, and identify those in the educational environment industry who demonstrate the core competencies essential to the practice of planning, designing, equipping and maintaining educational environments.”

The designation provides professionals planning and designing educational facilities with advanced skills regarding Educational Visioning, Community Engagement, Learning Environment Pre-Design Planning, Design of Learning Environments, Educational Facility Implementation, Project Management / Project Delivery, Assessment of School Facilities, and Ethics and Professionalism.

Many Bassetti staff are active members of A4LE and we are thrilled to continue our support of growth and professionalism in this arena.

Furthering Our Commitment to the Communities We Serve

Our design approach is to shape buildings that responsively interact with their environment, honestly express the materials and methods of their construction, and genuinely enrich their programs and the people they serve, and our ALEP Certified team members will help further this approach.

Paired with our Trauma-Informed Design initiative and decades of school design experience, Bassetti is at the forefront of educational facilities design that responds to the real-world issues our students face and engage communities in discovering proactive solutions. Through comprehensive design, planning, and programming, we aim to uplift the aspirations of each student and support them on their journey to achieving their goals.

Congratulations!
